Duncan Kelbaugh's popular lecture series returns this
Fall, Saturday mornings at 10am. These are designed as one-hour
lectures (except as noted), but Duncan likes to teach, and
you like to ask questions, so they often run past 11am!!
Sept 6 Renovating an older bed:
How to deal with a mess! Overgrown shrubs & perennials,
heavy weeds, lousy soil, rocks, messy edges, you name it.
We'll look at pruning way back, transplanting, adding soil,
weeding, fertilizing, mulching, edging, making it look good
again!
Sept 13 Gardening
Questions & Answers with Dick Chiswell & Duncan:
pruning, ponds, perennials, composting, bugs, walkways, walls,
and trees, whatever you want to ask, we'll try to answer.
Sept 20 Landscape & Pond Design
& Construction: Six falls, three ponds, and a bridge,
surrounded in a colourful purple & yellow landscape, make
up Piggy Pond at the Corral at our Garden Centre. Duncan explains
pond & falls layout and building, plus the design and
colours of the lush plantings.
Sept 27 FALL FIELD DAY & Perennial
Exchange
10am: Lecture: Perennial Gardening in the Fall: Colourful
foliage & flowers, dividing, maintenance, & winterizing.
11am- Perennial and houseplant Exchange:
Trade clumps of perennials from your garden for kinds you
don't have. Bring rooted cuttings or babies of your favourite
house plants too.
11:15:Kids scavenger hunt: The popular dash through
the nature trail for hidden coins!
11:30- Hot Dog BBQ and tractor
rides for the kids.
Oct 4 Dealing with Deer in your garden:
Types of fencing, repellents, plants they do and don't like,
ways to cope, and if all else fails, Sympathy!
Oct 11: Walkways, walls, & Patios-
design & construction: demos & tips for do-it-yourselfers
Oct 18: Special 2-hour pruning clinic
(10am-noon): Duncan will demonstrate his thinning pruning
technique on many kinds of evergreens and flowering shrubs
around the property, which allows you to prune all species
anytime you want, controlling size and shape while keeping
the natural appearance. Dunc's Birthday Cake for all who come!!
