& EVENTS FOR FALL 2009
Saturdays, 10-11am at Brunswick Nurseries
Garden Centre, rain or shine. Duncan Kelbaugh, gardening columnist
for the Telegraph Journal & TVNB gardening personality,
gives you practical information on many aspects of gardening,
geared to helping you 'Do It Yourself'.
Sept 12 Fall Gardening Checklist: Bulb planting, perennial
dividing &care, pruning, bed maintenance, vegetable gardens,
winter preparation, etc. Bring your questions for Duncan.
Sept 19 Home Bed Design: Shape, size, soil prep., plant
choice, how-to install; fixing up older beds with existing
shrubs & perennials (& weeds!!). Bed maintenance procedures.
Sept 26 FALL FIELD DAY
10am: Lecture: All About Perennials: Colourful foliage &
flowers, dividing, planting, bed prep., maintenance, &
winterizing. Using perennials to best effect.
11:15:Kids scavenger hunt: The popular dash through the nature
trail for hidden coins!
11:30- Hot Dog BBQ and tractor rides for the kids.
Oct 3 Walkways, walls, & Patios: How to design and
build paver or flagstone patios and walkways, Allen block
or tumbled stone walls. Lecture till 11am. Demos & questions
after.
Oct 10: Planting & Transplanting Trees & Shrubs.
Choosing for that spot. Digging & transplanting. Spacing,
staking, light, water & soil requirements, mulching, winter
prep.
Oct 17: Special 2-hour pruning clinic (10am-noon): Duncan
will demonstrate his thinning pruning technique on many kinds
of evergreens and flowering shrubs around the property, which
allows you to prune all species anytime you want, controlling
size and shape while keeping the natural appearance. Dunc's
